Frequently asked
Does my friend need Locatus?
No. The text carries plain coordinates and ordinary links. Any phone that can open a link, or search a coordinate in a map app, can use it, including offline map apps.
Does it work with no signal?
The position comes from GPS, which needs no cell service, so the fix and the message work in airplane mode. Sending the text needs whatever signal your messaging app can find, and a short text usually gets through a network that is too busy for data.
What does Locatus collect?
Nothing. There is no account and no server. Favourites and settings stay on the phone, and your position leaves it only inside a text you send yourself.
Which map apps can open the links?
Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, Organic Maps, and HERE WeGo each have their own link, and an Android "any map app" link opens whatever map the phone uses by default, including offline ones.
